It seems like last year and this year is bringing back what we all love in the music industry: girl groups! For this post, we focus on the new spunky and sassy group, June’s Diary.
You may remember June’s Diary from the docuseries, “Chasing Destiny” that aired back in April 2016 on BET. The show was hosted by Kelly Rowland and world-renowned choreographer, Frank Gatson who were on the search for inspiring artists with hopes of making it into the music business. After treacherous weeks of constant workouts, studio sessions, dance lessons, and eliminations, Kelly Rowland and Frank Gatson chose who they believed were best to be the next big thing: Ashly, Shyann, Brienna, Gabby, and Kristal.
Since the ending of the show, the group has been very busy with appearances, tours, and music videos. During the “2016 BET Awards”, June’s Diary released the video for their single, “L.A.N.C.E” and it reached 500,000 views within the first two weeks, and currently up to 1.3 million. They also released their single, “All of Us”, from the show which can be found on ITunes .
Not only have they dropped two singles, but they’ve made special appearances, such as singing the “Negro National Anthem” at Luda Day Weekend and opening up for R. Kelly for his “12 Nights of Christmas” and “The After Party” tours.
They also were the opening act for Brandy at this year’s Soulquarius, which took place in February and had an amazing lineup of artists, including Erykah Badu, R. Kelly, Jhene Aiko, Ja Rule, Ashanti, and much more.
There hasn’t been an official word on when June’s Diary’s debut album will be released but we’re hoping we’re able to get some music soon. This group is everything and then some and if you haven’t downloaded their music, I would advise you to do it NOW.
Their single, “L.A.N.C.E.” can be found on ITunes. Make sure you get it and “don’t be Lance” 😉
